Valeriy Gridnev was born in Russia in 1956. He studied at the Art College in Sverdlovsk 1976-1980, and Repin St.Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture 1983-1990. His graduation project “The Early Years” won the prestigious Gold Medal of USSR Academy of Arts. Valeriy now lives and works in the UK.
PORTRAITS
Valeriy is much sought after for his commissioned portraits, both formal and informal. His acute sense for composition is clear both from the settings for his portraits and the sensitive depiction of relationships between individuals within a family.
His commissioned work includes sitters from America, mainland Europe at well as the UK.
FIGURATIVE WORK
Valeriy covers a wide range of subjects in his work and is particularly noted for his figurative work; in oils, pastel and charcoal.
His superb control of each of these media is demonstrated in his renowned figurative work in which he captures quiet moments of thoughtfulness and reflection.
EXHIBITIONS
His work has been exhibited regularly since 2000 at the annual exhibitions of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Pastel Society, all at the Mall Galleries, London.
He has been awarded numerous awards by these prestigious societies and other organisations. He exhibits internationally.
