He graduated in 1990, winning the Gold medal of the USSR Academy of Arts with his graduation painting, Early Years. This medal is regarded as the highest award in Russia for a young artist. The sustained high quality of his work gained him membership of some of the most prestigious societies for artists in the UK:
While the scope of Valeriy’s work has covered many genres, it is his figurative work, including commissioned portraits, that he favours and for which he has received the highest acclaim.
